I was speaking to the lad next door an he mentioned he buys some aditives that he adds to his drinking water when he goes for a ride

Me being me an being male i didnt want to come across like i didnt know what he was on about but as i've never met any of you guys it doesnt matter

What are these aditives he mentioned are they expensive, what do they do, whats the point and are they worth it?

Or is it just a gimik?

Probably minerals and electrolytes - you sweat these out.

You can get them in sports drinks, or just take banana with you and plain water (and some fig rolls ;-)

Hooray for fig rolls indeed 8)

People use energy drink supplements to provide a little extra go when out riding and they come in a plethora of shapes and sizes. I have tried various ones with various results and cant say that in my experience any one is better then the others. You can also make your own isotonic drink (helps to replace fluids, elctrolyes, essential nutrients etc) by mixing water and fruit juice (50/50) with a pinch of salt and some glucose powder which you can find in Boots.
Wow great ship man. Looks like a fish, flies like a fish, steers like a cow.

Really only worth it if you are doing long rides. then you may need a mix of energy drinks and ones with salts in.
