Pin Striping - what do you think?

Hey there,

Has anyone ever added pin striping to their ride? I've had this crazy idea that I could Lampre up my bike a bit by adding subtle pink pin lines to a couple of tubes.

I don't want to buy some of the trim just for it to fall off in the rain or not apply properly, so I'm hoping somebody has tried this before and can advise.

Cheers
Pedro

You could get a frame builder/renovator to do it for you. There used to be a frame builder called Jack Taylor who was reknowned for that sort of detailing. He may have since retired but I'm sure that others would be able to do it.

I'm more of a Magic Tree guy. I like my bike to smell Pine-Fresh :D

Yes, In my dreams :D Maybe I'll buy one if I find 5 grand on the street. Until then 3 or 4 quid is the more economical alternative :D

I've tried to do a mock-up in photoshop. I think it looks cool. It's more subtle than I'm describing. I might give it a go and post a picture of the results.

This is a good idea. Unfortunately, I believe Jack Taylor has passed away. There are other people who can do it though e.g Argos, Atlantic Boulevard, Mario Vaz...

Donkeys' years since I was at art school , but in the few primary sign writing classes I attended - one term - one period was given over to the craft of pinstriping .

I couldn't do it properly then , far less now , but a quick Google brought up a few interesting looking sites . This for example : http://www.pinstripinguk.com/

    Have a go . :D

  • I've used pin-striping trim tape to fasten wires to the frame (speedo , dynamo wiring). Doesn't fall or peel off
Recipe: shave legs sparingly, rub in embrocation and drizzle with freshly squeezed baby oil.

That's a useful site. There are some serious pieces of art on there. It reminds me of a guy I met in New Zealand. He did this to his car...

Then his car was stolen. He bought a Kinder Surprise egg to console himself, and the toy was a car. How cruel.

It's a lot fancier than what I have in mind. I'll post up a picture of what I've planned.

See, it's where the black meets the blue. Almost like the Lampre team, except they have white instead of silver.
