New vs secondhand cross bike
Greetings,
An old chestnut, I'm sure, but I'd be interested in what you think...
A basic choice faces me - spend ~£1000 on a new cross bike (105 equipped) or ~£800 a second hand bike (ultegra SL equipped) a couple of years old, but with a better frame.
Ridley Crossbow (new) and Ridley Supercross (second hand), in case you are wondering.
What would you do?!

i will be in the same situation later in the year as i am planning to ride cross for the first time next winter.
Unless i see a real bargin, i will be buying second hand.0 -
what kind of life has the s/h ultegra bike had?? - if it has been raced regularly in that time and the kit is still original, then I might be tempted to go for the new 105...0

£950 ideally.
I bought the bike towards the end of last year before the 2009 stock came in. Mine was the last 54cm Trek had in stock. I paid £1300 for it, this years is £1600
It's also in white, not shocking red.0 -

I did, but they will go to one side for a titanium project in the summer! I think I'm going to buy a Sabbath Silk Road Pro......0
