hi all
Looking for a bike rack for a '95 toyota corolla hatchback with a spoiler. Car doesnt have a hitch.
Ive seen the Saris bones ones, but cant seem to find dimensions for them anywhere to see would it fit. Anyone have dimensions or know that the bones 2 or bones 3 would fit? Or what else is out there that will work?
Here is a pic of what the back looks like, this car has same boot and spolier as mine
Also, who is the cheapest for them inc delivery.
thanks

Hello!!
I'm not sure you will get away with a bones on there with that spoiler, not because of where the rack will sit but more because of where the bikes will sit once theyre on.
It could cause damage to the spoiler, has the car got fixing points for a roof rack? you might want to consider a roof mounted carrier!
Someone will probably come along and prove me wrong about the saris bones though!!'08 Stinky and an old Saracen X-tort Single speed

Forget bike racks, they are the work of the devil.
All they do is scratch your car and your bike and flap about in the wind.
Get yourself on ebay and get a 2nd hand roof rack, then get a Mont Blanc Barracuda.
It's by far and away the easiest, most secure, simplest way to transport your bike, and it doesn't leave a mark on the car.
I regularly have 4 full sus bikes on the roof of my wee old Xsara with no complaints at all from the car.

I am looking at these at the moment, the only trouble is that they will hold the wifes bike no problem but my stinky weighs 20kg and the maximum load weight for these carriers is 17kg!!
Its worth taking into account the weight of the bikes being carried!!'08 Stinky and an old Saracen X-tort Single speed

I have a Saris Bones 3-bike carrier on my mercedes A-class and it is a B*****D to get even a single bike on there especially full suss ones . The amount of cursing and profanities I've shouted using it would make me rich if I had a swear jar. The mounting arm's curvature makes it a nightmare to properly position the top tube on the mounting wells (which were probably not designed for thick top tubes like on my Ransom)
The under mounted strap bits gets in the way when trying to get the bike to the inner part of the carrier and even after sercuring the bike's wheels and handlebars , the setup sways unstably even at 30 mph !
I'm guessing most rear mounted racks are not full suss friendly i'd either
(a) Diassemble your bike and stash it in your car
(b) get a roof rack
(c) 2nd hand range rover or van :twisted:Specialized Camber

As mentioned above, the Bones is not the greatest rack to use with bikes that have shocks/linkages inside the frame triangle.0 -
Mont Blanc High Mount should fit you car. You will need to be careful and ensure that neither the cycle carrier or the cycle carrier straps come into contact with the spoiler but the carrier is hinged in two places so it should clear it no problem. Just double check that you have chassis points undr you car. You wont need lighting board or number plate because it holds it above them. www.montblancuk.co.uk

Cheapest place to buy is probably Argos or one of the dealers on Mont blanc site.

According to the saris website, the Bones will fit an '06 Corolla with a spoiler, not sure if the '06 is the same shape as yours though?

Other suggestions...
I have just bought a Thule 9105 Clip-On High, Very Very secure on the car, and the bikes (takes 2) sits IN a grooved track and are clamped by the top tube. NOT hanging off by the top tube like most others. Not sure if it'll go over the spoiler though???
Sits high enough to clear lights and plate.
Only downside I can think of is... It's an absolute nightmare to get on and off the car. Needs two people, I would say impossible with one without damaging the car in some way.

I'm currently using a high level cycle carrier from Halfords on my Primera, glass hatch with spoiler and it's done fine, lower part fits on bumper and top goes over spoiler and rests on glass, most of the weight is transfered down to the lower mount and therefore onto the bumper. It ruins the view out the back (but i know where I've been ) and fuel economy is shot to s1ht.
think it's this one, http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_251011_langId_-1_categoryId_165515#dtab
High level so no light / number board needed. Please help me raise £5k for Diabetes UK by completing a Couch Potato to Ironman challenge.

Anyway, you could consider a tow bar mounted rack. Some examples:
http://www.roofrackshop.co.uk/bike/thul ... -racks.htmYou only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

They're probably the best solution really, but the problem is, if you haven't already got a tow-bar they become bloody expensive.
I looked into one for my car, the total cost with Rack, Towbar and electrics etc, was in excess of £250.0 -
no towbar on the car have been looking around for even a second hand and no luck so far. As you say, towbar and rack does begin to add up!GT Avalanche 2.0

can you put your bikes in the car and put an old sheet covering the seats so they don't get dirty. They can even be tied down if you worry about them moving0

thats what im doing at the moment but with two bikes there is no room for bags and the dog if heading off for a wknd!GT Avalanche 2.0

Bags/Dog on top of bikes or would this be too heavy0

The towbar option is definitely the most expensive, but it works.
No contact with your car (Other than the towball itself)
Bikes are lower down, so easier to load and less of an aerodynamic drag.
Bikes are supported by the wheels, removing the issues with full sussers.
Bikes don't rub against each other.
Lighting board built in (Not hanging on your bikes and scratching them)
Overall, they're worth the extra dosh.
If you didn't learn anything today, you weren't paying attention!0
