Painting frames

Can anyone recommend a place in Berkshire where I can get my hard-tail repainted at a decent price?
I've tried several car repair places, but the prices are stupidly high.
Thanks in advance.

do it yourself or go to your lbs. chances are they will know at least 1-2 people who will do it.0

My mate painted his hardtail glow in the dark and hes only 15... as long as you research it and do the job properly then you will get a professional finish by yourself!I reckon that with enough people in on it, we could sneak into Canada and steal the town of Whistler...
Any takers????0 -
I disagree about the do it yourself approach if the frame is decent. Home respays look good when new (if done right) but spray can paint isn't very hard and the finish degrades much faster than professional stove enamelled or powder coated finishes.
If you need a cheap job and the frame isn't worth much anyway, look for local companies in your yellow pages who could do it for cash.
- shot blasting - bead blasting is best on aluminium frames, cost me a tenner 2 years ago
- professional paint shop or powder coater, probably charge £30 - £40. Make sure all the holes are properly plugged or masked before you hand it over, and preferably give them something to hold on to like an old seat post. You may have to do some cleaning up afterwards, plus frame decals etc.
If you go to the cycle spray professionals the finish will be superb.

Yeah, I would never paint a frame other than a ratter myself, even the hard OEM paint will chip, never mind the average rattle can. Certainly don't even try using cellulose car paint... Hammerite or similiar, or car wheel paint, could be tough enough.
I'd say speak to Triple S Powdercoating if you want a nice finish...Uncompromising extremist0 -
Chances are your LBS will either know somebody local or have an arrangement with Argos in Bristol.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

I sprayed a rear triangle a few years ago and even with a lot of hardening laquer over the top of the paint, the result didn't last very long. But you may be able to rent a charging paint sprayer, I haven't used one but I think you attach a lead to the metal and it charges the metal opposite to a charge given to the paint held in a reservoir - basically the paint is magnetically attached to the frame as well as dried on to the frame and should last much longer. As others have said. read into it before you do it.0

Stove enamalling is much better, harder wearing, better looking and reasonably priced. Argos racing will do the job for around £80 with a turnaround of 2-3 weeks.0
