Hi just a quick question, i have recently got the new saint rear mech which is great but my 2007 lx shifter has decided to give up the ghost (a strip down and clean did not solve the problem) so i am looking at getting a new shifter and i cant see £40 being worth it for the saint one so i guess it is between the slx and xt and would like to know which one would be best suited for me, i will be running it without the gear view if that makes any diffrence.

I have the Xt ones on my bike and i have no complaints, they are totally fantastic and completely reliable, and are well worth the money!!! I would definetely sugest that you try to get them, thay are amazingly great!!Orange St4-Reba SL-FullXT0

MBR this month review shifters, they give the SLX 10/10 and the XT 8/10. And SLX is cheaper too!Boardman Road Comp '08

Are you not tempted by the SRAM X-0? It's a massive 7grammes lighter than X-9s, and only £83 more!Boardman Road Comp '08

go for slx. Got xt on my hardtail and the rear died after 8 months, one of the rachets failed, replaced under waranty but still shouldn't fail like that.

The SLX is great if you want to run the shifter inboard of the brake lever as 5 minutes with an allen key moves the clamp on the shifter so it all fits nicely - one finger braking all the way!0

The internals are very similar, the XT slightly better made.0

I've got the Saint M810 shifter and it's definitely worth the money, rear mech is nice too. Nice xmas pressy from the better half.0

sorry to hijack your post uniqueride... buying a hoo koo e koo and it comes with x9 rear and x7 front and shifters is it worth going to x9 straight through from new? would imagine I would get a deal as parts coming off would be new. havnt spoken to supplier yet, handing cash over on monday and a week to wait for delivery.0

i got the shifter yesterday and took the viewer of straightaway, its nice to have a proper cover piece for the hole instead of having a sticker. the shifter works great with a smooth srisp shift the quible that the lever throw is abit harder is noticable compared to other shiters but i didnt find it to be an issue at all .
Fandangus i cant see any point in upograding untill it wears out as you will see very little performance increaseRide it hard on a hardtail0 -

i think the sheer value for money was the reason for its 10/10 over the XTs 8/10.
The XT is very slightly better, but most reviews agree that the difference isn't really enough to justify the extra cost.Giant TCR advanced 2 (Summer/race)

The price difference is lessened if buying online from somewhere like Merlin too.
Though I am sure that they said the thumbshifter was ever so slightly better positioned on SLX too.2006 Giant XTC

it is very ergomonic but i think the xt is better looking but then it doesnt really matter if its hidden under a brake leverRide it hard on a hardtail0
