The gear on Dave Hinde's website is always very reasonable but a mate tells me there have been some bad posts regarding this seller on this site. What are people's opinions of the gear from Dave Hinde?

There is a whole thread on this which you might find via the search facility

  • Don't think the search facility is very easy on this site that's why I posted this topic. It may just be my PC illiteracy!
  • Use google instead?

Don't buy from them is the general advice given in the other topic(s). Use Chain Reaction, Ribble, or Merlin. They are normally close on price and service is good.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

if Dave Hinde or his staff were here they''d say "Fvck off you pack off stupid wankers, don't need your business. you all know fuk all squared and are a waste of space. if this wasn't a forum i'd beat the livin sh1t out of every one of you c0nts." .....or something like that.

they're real charmer's, you should phone them up and question their knowledge on something....just for a laugh. i've alsways been tempted to phone them and enquire about one of their bikes but voice concern that they need to slag other bike shops and fake reviews in the comics as their adverts.

1st week in january too, they should be in cracking form...

    go on, i dare you...

for an entertaining read look up their shop on ebay and read the bad feedback they've given their customers. it's classic stuff.

Since yesterday, they have removed their old eBay ID (number1bikebits), but the feedback they left for customers (for simply complaining about non-delivery after weeks of waiting) included such gems as "thieving lying scum" (actual quote). Do you really want to give these charmers your money?

They also have an ASA adjudication for advertising goods they don't have and for not paying refunds.

They have also been found out for stating built bike weights that are not genuine.

wasn't there one story of a customer wanting a DA rear mech but the shop only had Ultegra. The customer rejected it so Mr.Hinde allegedly offered to write Dura-Ace over the crossed-out Ultegra legend

You would think so, but clearly he was that bad and for many years. The eBay system until last year allowed him to leave retaliatory feedback and he still had a 98.5 rating, but 1 in 60 of his customers still left a negative (yesterday I was comparing this to another eBay shop with high sales that got 1 in 844 customers leaving a negative). He places large ads in Cycling Weekly, who presumably for commercial reasons, have resisted many representations made to them about Hinde's behaviour. It may have been a dark time in his life, but that lasted for a significant portion of his life, assuming he is a reformed character would be like letting Hitler sit as a judge on the European Court of Human Rights IMHO!

Anyway, you want to give him a second chance, fine, buy a bike that doesn't meet advertised spec, buy a component that, if it arrives at all, turns out to be used rather than new, buy a set of wheels that go out of true as soon as you use them, and enjoy the wonderfully polite and helpful customer service when you complain!
  • The few times I used them I had no problems and got what I wanted at a great price.Shame they didn't treat all their customers like I was treat :(

I've just checked out the feedback threads for number1bikebits and frankly, it's unbelievable!

if only! It was actually 105. they offered to sand it off, write dura ace on it with a marker and charge the customer extra.

    Hmmmmmmm...

Bit of an odd one this. Trading as Number1BikeBits on eBay, you either seemed to get perfect service (i.e. you'd get what you wanted quickly and cheaply) or it was a complete disaster. Their actual ratio of satisfied to dissastisfied customers wasn't actually that bad, but the horror stories to be found in feedback left indicated a company that just doesn't know how to do business. I'm not really sure how come eBay let them treat customers like that, a lot of the feedback was terribly abusive.

On a personal note, I got a frame from them off eBay at a very reasonable price (55 GBP for a Dedacciai Extreme MTB frame). But when it arrived, the braze-ons were riveted on, the paintwork was poor and the packing used to protect in it transit consisted of empty coke bottles. I can't complain though, I certainly got 55 quid's worth of bike - If I'd paid full price, I'd have been seriously annoyed though...

I once bought a groupset direct from the shop, and whoever I spoke to was efficient and polite and generally seemed to know what they were doing. They let me have the groupset at the same price it was going for as 'Buy it Now' on eBay, even though the shop price was higher. I also received the parts within a week.

So all in all not too bad. That said, there is no way I would deal with them again. It's just not worth the risk. That mistakes get made, especially with mail order, is just one of those things, but if you can't trust the company to deal with such mistakes effectively, then it's not worth the saving. I'd rather pay a little bit more, take my custom elsewhere and get decent service.

1 in 60 negatives may not seem too bad a ratio, but as I said above, DHCyclesport (totally different company that was being confused with D Hinde yesterday) got 1 in 844 negatives, yet the latter had a feedback score of only 1% better!

Ebay are terrible at allowing misconduct by sellers, some of Hinde's feedback left for others was clearly defamatory and libellous yet ebay refuse to censor it - if I had ever received feedback such as "filthy lying thieving scum" I would have been keen to pursue the issue through any means necessary. Ebay was made for rogue traders!

The 'brand new' Campag Record front mech I bought from them had rub marks on the cage before it had arrived! This was me giving them a second chance like a fool. Never again!
I'm a very easy going person normally but the thought of those ******* at Dave Hinde really get me angry

I only live about 8 miles from their shop, only been in the once (it always seems shut, dunno what hours they keep).

I bought some wheels from them on eBay, sent them an email saying I knew number1bikebits was Dave Hinde, that I lived locally and would collect.

They were initially very, very cagey about admitting they were Dave Hinde, almost as though they didn't want me turning up for some reason...

I turned up, explained about eBay, got the wheels, no problems. The bloke I dealt with was decent enough, friendly, knew what he was talking about.
Dunno if he was Dave Hinde himself or just worked there.

But there was a lad in a green beanie hat lurking about in the background who was very weird.
Other posters on various other forums (yes, Dave Hinde has cropped-up repeatedly on every forum you've heard of and several more besides...) have sometimes said it was Dave himself who was this customer-service monster and sometimes this beanie-hatted lad.

MY god that is scary stuff .I was going to purchase a bike from him last year but didnt bother in the end.I personally think I few bike shops have attitudes towards roadies who aren't in perfect shape and ride a top end bike (me for example) I find the worst to be BIKESPORT at darlington. when i had my old GT 7 speed i snapped some spokes (rear wheel) ,bikesport informed me "can not get new wheels for 7 speed you will have to chuck yor bike, but come and have a look at our giant range". I took same wheel to DR CRANKS BIKE SHACK in whitby explained about my wheel.he sold my a set of wh 500 (put spacer on) for £70 changed everything around and my bike and i was back on the road in less than an hour......

kenda innertube for my bike @ bikesport £6.50
    same tube at boyes £2.95

if i was the dude with the 105 / dura ace rear mech story i would have contacted trading standards. What a bunch of tossers

Probably because ebay was getting paid, and that's about all they care about.

Is Fastpartsforbikes the new ebay name for number1bikebits?
I'm from Northwich originally and I'm not aware of that many bike shops.
Thought I'd ask before I make a potentially huge mistake.
Though I feel I have to say I've bought quite a lot from number1bikebits without any problems at all. Won't use them again though after reading this. I've just been lucky
