Pedals and shoes

Hi
I have just bought a Carrera Fury and have around £80 to spend on some shoes and matching pedals.
As this is my 1st bike can anyone recommend something cheap and suitable for both winter and summer?
Thanks

I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
No idea ! what are the advantages/disadvantages of both ?
Well done on the purchase, great bike for the price!
SPD's (Shimano clipless pedals) are efficient as you stay attached to the pedal via your shoe and the pedal always satys under the ball of your foot.. The shoes have very stiff soles again to improve pedalling efficiency. SPDs are good if you ride trails and cross country stuff that isn't too technical.
If you ride more extreme terrain, big rocks, jumps etc flats are generally better as if you do come off you're not attached tot he bike, plus it's easier to get your feet back on to the pedals quickly. You tend to use skate style shoes with sticky rubber soles for flat pedals to increase grip.
Personally I prefer SPD clipless pedals. The Shimano Deore PD-M520s are a good starter pedal, all the functionality of the more expensive models for a lot less cash.
It can also be down to preference, there are a number of experienced riders on here that just don't get on with SPD and use flats for XC riding as well as more extreme stuff.
