i saved some money hoping to grab a bargain in the january sales but i cant find anything worth buying.
does anyone know were the REAL january sales is at?

The bike trade generally has it's major sales at the end of the season i.e. after summer to clear out for the next years stock, particularly in terms of bikes. Likewise, clothing sales are seasonal too - the best time to get discounts on winter clothing is in the spring and autumn for summer kit.

The falling pound against the euro, dollar and yen means that stock is now a lot more expensive to buy in than it was last year. The bike industry is odd in that lots of stock is bought by the importers in the autumn, and not a great deal for the rest of the year. Given that restocking is going to be a whole lot more expensive, and that new bike sales have been strong overall in most recent months, there is not a lot of incentive to discount.

Expect prices to rise significantly, not fall. Anyone wanting that new frame or groupset would be well advised to buy now.

I agree with you on the currency implications but i think it's going to get hard for mid to high-end retailers and manufacturers later this year. i would not be suprised if we saw pretty limited product development for 2010 so that 2009 stock can continue to be current. i've certainly seen some signs and heard rumours of things getting tough already.

I was impressed with the Cycle Surgery sale on clothing. My fab new Gore Phantom arrived this morning along with a Pearl Izumi Gavia jersey that completes my winter wardrobe. Most sales just dump stuff you wouldn't want anyway in my opinion.

i wanted a frame and i have ended up with a ribble. today is the last day of the so-called sale but im sure theres 15% of ribble online orders at any other time of year, so i wouldnt really call it a proper sale.

got some bits from wiggle last week, but most of there sale stuff is rubbish. I only used them as i had a £5 e voucher to spend. Got to say that there delivery service is fantastic. Free delivery, ordered at 4pm friday, arrived at 8.30 the next morning.

If you an ebay user check out dhcyclesports shop. I brought a used bike form dave last feb, and when i have saved up the pennies i am going to buy a new build from him. His ebay shop always has a few bargins. Assos chamois cream for £6.99 is the cheapest i've seen.

I would have a read on the net about DH Cycles before I spent any money with them! Terrible service reputation and many many complaints I have read on various forums.

Take care - DHCyclesport is a highly reputable dealer, and IS NOT the same company as Dave Hinde, which I would avoid like the plague - easily confused.

I have ordered loads of stuff from DHcyclesport - no problems with them at all as alfablue says. Oh and they answer the phone and are helpful too

Does anyone have any experience of buying bits at one of Cycle Promotions One Day sales?
selection of products & prices

I've been sent a flyer saying that Cycle Promotions have a sale in my area this coming weekend. On the flyer & their website the reductions look pretty decent but are the rest of their products similarly discounted or do they attract you to the sale with a few bargains and then try and sell you stuff you could get cheaper elsewhere?

Also what is the quality like, as I don't fancy a trip to Barnsley to return a faulty item?

yer they used to sell bikes on ebay and once had a promotion in chester, bought a few bits of them theyre ok.

DH Cycles is my LBS run by the great Dave Harding, not the infamous Dave Hinde!!!

I've found plenty of bargain Nike stuff since they're pulling out of the cycling world.

Pair of elite bib shorts for half price. Though even the small onces were too long - almost came down to my knee-cap. Weird that one.

so DHCyclesport who sells on ebay is not run by dave hinde but is run by dave harding who is 2x more evil.

DHCyclesport does sell on eBay but as far as I know it is infinitely more reputable than Dave Hinde. DHCyclesport has a feedback rating of 99.9%, you can view all the negatives here

Dave Hinde sold on eBay under the name Number1bikebits that had a feedback rating of 98.5% which might sound good, but on such a large number of sales, the feedback was quite atrocious, especially when one considers that he used very strong retaliatory feedback until eBay changed the rules (Often called complaining buyers things like "thieving lying scum"), thus buyers were under threat of having their feedback ruined if they left negatives for Hinde, so the true level of dissatisfaction is likely to have been a lot higher. (Hinde even bragged to one buyer to this effect in one feedback). See negatives here.

Hinde got 60 negs on 3000 sales in 12 months, DHCyclesport got only 12 negs on over 10000 sales in the same period, so DHCyclesport got 844 sales for each negative, Hinde got 60 sales for each negative, so on that count Hinde was 14 times WORSE!

Hinde stopped trading on eBay as Number1bikebits late last year (was he banned by eBay after so many complaints and disputes, and for libellous feedback, or did he just decide to try and wipe his slate clean?), and is now trading as fastpartsforbikes. The feedback so far suggests he is trying harder, but he would never ever get my business just because his previous feedback, especially what he left for others (see here) indicates what a nasty piece of work he is. (He has also got an adjudication against him from the Advertising Standards Authority for advertising parts in Cycling Weekly that he does not have, and for failing to give refunds within 30 days even when ordered to by the ASA).

So in my view DHCyclesport and Dave Hinde are in no way comparable, and I would have no qualms whatsoever from buying from DHCyclesport knowing that I have over an 800 to 1 chance of being a happy customer. PLEASE do not confuse the two companies!!!! It is just very unfortunate that Dave Harding has the misfortune to share initials with that scoundrel.

I would recommend you get along to the cycle promotion sale, prices are good and they have everything you can think off. Been to the last few in Edinburgh and it's a good opertunitey to stock up for the year on spares. check them out on there web page.
