Ive narrowed it down to 2 bikes after searching for a while now.

This bike

Marin Northside Trail 2007 (I can get it for £415, but theres not many left)

Or

Carrera Fury 2008 @ £480

Im looking towards the Marin because its cheaper. Though I rode the fury in store (in halfords :) ) and the gears were really good, really smoth and instant. The forks felt and looked really good too.

The Fury is MUCH better VFM in my opinion. Has an extra tenner off for the VAT saving when you go to the checkout at the Halfords site.

Fury has hydraulic brakes, much better, multi adjustable fork, the added practicality of 3 chainrings, 9 speed drivetrain.

  • I ordered the Marin.

I sat on both bikes (I sat on the 2009 version but it should be the same). I prefered the Marin's seating position.

Well I hope the 2007 model will fit the same as the 2009 model (both the same size frames).

They are not always the same! Frames are often tweaked. But sitting on it will give you a better judgment of what you want. Have to say though, is poor value, the fork really spoils it.

    ?

I have experience of the fork, it is the worst one I have ever used! Totally ruins any bike it is graced with. I would upgrade it to open uo the potential of the frame.

Hehe. More specifically they have no damping which leads to poor control over bumps. A bike that is designed to bit ridden has hard as this really needs one. Plus they top out with a big thunk! It will get you through minor stuff, but slam something hard and the ricochet can throw your hands off the bars!

I forgot about this post because nobody else replied to it....after a month -_-.

Ive had it for 2 months now, I love it but I agree the fork is a bit basic. The cable discs are awesome though.

I might sell my old bike and upgrade the fork in a few months.

Which fork should I be looking at (I dont want to spend over £200),
