I've been offered a trek 1000 for a very reasonable price, which I'm thinking of getting for a winter hack and possible single speed conv, but I'm not sure how old it is. I thought Trek 1000's were black and white, but this one is red and white - does anyone know the score? The guy selling it bought it second hand and doesn't know the answer.... Am I mistaken? Or is it as old as I think it may be(!)[/list]

  • If it helps, Ive got a silver and blueish 1000 SL. Paid £300 off ebay for it jst over 12 months ago, in v good condition, and has worked very well as a winter hack.
  • a friend of mine has a blue, red and white 1000 and it's 7 years old from new.
    not sure if that helps?
  • Check out the Bike archives page on Trek.com.You,ll find the bike there with a little searching.

thanks for the tip - just checked out the archive, no sign, so it's either some unknown colour scheme or older than 2003.

  • To date a bike, you can look at the date code on the Shimano parts. Only works if the parts are original!
