Hi, new here. Anyone here worked in a bike store before? Just wondering cause I want to work part time in one when I leave school. Does anyone have any advice on what qualifications you need? I'm taking leisure and Tourism currently at school for GCSE. Will that come in handy? Thanks.

When i was 18 i worked in one of my local bike shops, the money was crap even back then but it was doing something i enjoyed so it kept me happy for just over a year.
I dont know about today whether or not u actually need a mechanic qualification but aslong as u have a good knowldege of bikes and how they're built and put together u shouldnt have to many probs i wouldnt imagine.
Be aware though that enjoying and ridin bikes is not the same as seeing them all day everyday, u do get tired of them or atleast i did eventually which is why i left otherwise i would prob have stopped riding them altogether.0 -
I currently work part time in a bike shop, following doing work experience there back in Feb. I got offered a job because of my background bike knowledge and enthusiasm, not because of any qualifications.
The best way would be to go around your local shops talk to the staff/managers, see if they are looking for part time staff, submit a CV.
jayson money is still crap (where I work anyway!). Get a nice discount though - my GT was at trade price."Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0
