Due to work and family commitments the only chance I will have to train is the evenings after 7.00. I have a 30mile loop i plan to ride three nights a week.

Basically, I need some good lights for my road bike. budget upto £50.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Fenix are excellent torches and the orange peel reflector version is ideal on its own as a bike light. A pair is even better, one orange peel one spot! I've had a piar in use as bike lights and general purpsoe torches for six months or so now and I've been using a P3D at work for longer - they've proven to be very reliable and easy to live with.

There are cheaper options around as well - dealextreme apparently have similar for less, but I've no idea what the quality is like. The Fenix ooze it.

The dealextreme ones are ok for the money (1/3 of the similar Fenix) but they do feel cheaper, no spare O rings included, can't stand it up candle style, the mode switch is odd (mine always turns on with the mode after you turned it off) and you don't get a choice of reflector. The light they throw out is pretty similar though, so can't complain.

Fenix are great lights but if you need more light get a deal extreme p7 for 25 and use that for the darker bits - throws out two or three times the light.
  • I've some lumicycle ones. Very good!

+1 for the P7. I have two fenix lights and a P7 the P7 does give a better light bundle. Ademort

Thanks for your replies advice etc . For the front I have decided to go for the Fenix orange peel reflector version.

As for the rear light any ideas. I am deciding between Blackburn Mars 3.0 LED Safety Rear Light or the Cateye TL LD1100 Rear Light. The blackburn comes in £10 cheaper.

    Hope you can help

Personally I'd go for 2 x Smart Superflash http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=29374 though I have the vertical version, not sure of the difference to be honest.

I would agree on the Smart Superflash (fluff, your link is for the B-Spoke, probably v similar though), currently £9.39 on Wiggle. Its the most light you'll get for the money.

Whatever rear light you get make sure you get 2 of them so that if one fails then you will still be lit at the back

The vistalight total eclipse is the definitive bright red flashing led rear. They're too popular for their own good and difficult to find, but when you do buy three. One for your seatpost and two to clip to the back of your helmet.

Next option is one of these:

The cateye LD1100 is very good, although rather pricey compared to the Smart 1/2 Watt.

    +1 for the LD1100 and + 1 for the smart 1/2 watt

Have both equiped and for the money the 1/2 watt is great.

I do use the LD1100 as my main light and it does kick out more than the Eclipse mentioned before (100,000mcd compared to 18,000, okay some of it is kicked sideways mind you bu t still)

Would echo everyones opinions of buying two lights rather than one, will keep you alive if one fails and you, and a car, don't notice its failed!

What I would like to try is the add on rear lights for the lumicycle lights, or the red eye rear light for the exposures etc.

Also the dinotte rear lights, mind you being very expensive, but a 300 lumen real light would be nice, but a little to expensive for my likin at over 150quid
