Which of my tyres should I use?

Hey there,

I have 2 sets of tyres in my garage, but I'm not sure which ones to use. I could obviously try them both out, but I like to hear opinions.

One set of Specialized Mondo Pro's. I think they are from 2006 and have covered an unknown amount of miles. They look to be in good condition, that is, if they never had any tread to begin with. Are they supposed to be slick?

One set of nearly new Michelin Oriums. I bought them in August, and they have covered 1228.7 kilometres. They are also blue and look cool on my bike.

It's obvious which one is 'better'. It's probably a question of old vs new and whether or not the Mondos have deteriorated over time and miles or whether they can stand country roads with gravel and stones all over them.

Hmmm...

Haven't heard of the Michelins you own but, for what it's worth, if the Mondos don't have Specialized's Armadillo puncture protection I'd throw them out now.

My Allez Sport came with 60tpi Mondos and they were fr!gg!ng sh!te. Bought the bike in early September but within a few weeks the punctures started as the grit, grime and general crap built up on the road. My dad gave me the money for the replacement tyres so sick was he of coming to my rescue.

I initially bought some 120tpi Mondo Pros with the so-called armadillo kevlar protection and while they were a big improvement - i.e. I could actually leave the house in spring/winter - there are still way better tyres out there my opinion.
Are they supposed to be slick?
    Yes.
