Rockshox Revolution or Fox Vanilla's

Guys,
Im planning on getting some new forks and i have narrowed it down to 2, the Rockshox Revolution 426 or the Fox 32 RLC Vanilla, im slightly put off with the fact Rockshox forks develop a knocking sound which my Tora 302's have which according to SRAM is normal but iv not heard this problem on the fox's, has anyone got any of these and able to assist with the good and bad points with these forks?

They shouldn't develop knocking sounds. The solo air sytem has a slight click at full extension as the valve opens and shuts. This is not the system on the Dual Air revelations and certainly not on a coil fork.
Sounds like your fork has loose bushings or needs a service.0 -
i have a set of rockshox revelation 426 dual airs and can say they are amazing!, they are pretty light and create no noises0

Either way the Tora's are going they are only 8months old so id rather not spend money on them if im getting rid of them anyway, i took it to a trek bike shop and they said it was normal but annoying i just wanted to make just this was not similar to the 2 i have in mind.

I think you have a faulty pair. It is not normal at all. Certainly not indicative of the rest of the range.0

if they're 8 months old, why not get them fixed under warranty & then sell them on to finance the cost towards your new ones?

got revelations, great fork, very user friendly, stiff, lights, strong. (no knocking either)0

As i have a IS mount on my forks now and the forks im planning on getting if i go with the fox forks have a post mount is it just an adapter i need for my hayes capiler?? or is there something else.0

If the Hayes caliper is post mount, will bolt straight on the fork if using a 160mm disc. if higher, adaptor would be needed.0

SuperSonic ill send the forks off to SRAM and see what happens.
The Hayes Stroker Trails are the V6 i got from Merlin and they say its 'IS and Post mount V7 and V8 come IS only' but im running 180mm on the front not 160mm so to keep the 180's on ill need the adaptor.0 -
They are both good forks, you will get more options on the Rev for cheaper, so like compression poplock etc but I believe this to be a fact that Fox still has the edge with the quality of there forks. All the people who I ride with (the ones who ride with Fox) say they are perfect, I can say the same for my Fox Talas'.0

I know what you mean about the Rev's but the 09 models if its black are a similar price to the 09 Vanilla RLC's.
I have a black bike and i dont want white forks and thats all Rockshox seem to be putting out and you have to pay more for Black ones plus dual air is a pain in the rear for setting it up so iv read.
So it looks like it might be fox which also has 2 spare coils to but they do have Low speed compression adjustment,Low speed compression and Coil spring preload adjustment and Rebound adjustment do i need anything else if they are as plush as they say they are.0 -

Coil are simpler, but air lighter, and dual air can be set up in a variety of ways. Depends what you want. Both good forks.0 -
my mate has had nothing but problems with his talas system going wrong
whereas he has now changed to revelations and had no problems at all0 -
Point taken Supersonic i was ahead of myself there.
There is not much weight between them the Rev's are 3.75 lbs the Van RLC's 4.23 lbs while my Toras are just over 5 lbs so im shedding some weight anyway.
Not an easy choice but im heading in the direction of the Fox's.0 -
Is a good weight for a coil fork the Vanilla.

Its for a Trek Fuel EX 5.5 but iv just found a Black RS Rev 09 for £100 less than the Vanilla, decisions decisions.0

If it is only 100mm, then looking at the Rev and Vanilla seems a bad idea, why not F100, SID or Reba?0 -

The travel of the forks ie maximum movement! Some frames are only warrantied to take a certain amount.
The Vanilla and revs, though can be shortened, are 140mm as standard.0 -
Ah right ok my current ones are 130mm, iv seen 130mm RS Revs so is that a safer option?0

140 mm may be a bit much on a Fuel Ex 5.5, they're 120 mm as standard so you'd likely jack all the angles unless they are shortened.
Personally I wouldn't bother with Vanilla RLC over the Vanilla R as I think the extra money can be better spent elsewhere - unless you want the QR15, which you probably don't (as you'd likely need a new front wheel).0 -
Ok good now we are getting somewhere 130-140mm and just out of intrest what is the standard steerer tube length?0

Ghill knows the score, 120mm it seems will be best.
If you want all the adjusters, the RS forks will be cheaper ie Motion control.
An older Rev coil Uturn seems ideal - as light as the vanilla, travel adjust from 85-130mm and lots of adjsutment.0 -
