I'm after a decent XC bike (£1k +). I used to race a few years ago and fancy taking it up again to assist me with my Ironman training. Plus, I fancy doing the Grand Raid Cristalp at some point in the next year or two.

As I like a bargain I wonder what the eyes and ears of the forum have seen?

P.S. If It's Carbon framed all the better! Doesn't matter whether hardtail or suspended as long as it's racy!

That ETX still doen't look good value at the reduced price, EA30 and wheels from a 400 quid bike lol.

Can get a carbon framed Carrera Titan from BikeHut - for £899 full build.
  • Cannondale carbon rush 4 sl. Got one myself and love it. Classed as a marathon bike but more than happy as a full on xc bike. Carbon frame too. Got my 08 for £1599.00. 09's are going for £1800.00 but i bet you could get a better price on the 08 with a bit of haggling.

Check the deals on Giant Anthems at Paul's Cycles.

Brilliant bike, amazingly fast and great fun to ride.
  • get a bike around this time of year or a bit later when all of the 09 bikes are coming in in bulk and they need to clear stock, it is normally the expensive bikes they are left with cos everyone who wants a bargain normally wants a starter bike (at least i did)

  • Adding to the comment on Dales, I just bought a brand new Specialized Epic Expert 2008 for £949 (list price £1899) in medium. It is still listed as £1499 on the site, but maybe worth calling them to see if they have any stock left.

I didn't barter them down or anything - they are just doing crazy deals to shift some stock.
