Shimano bottom brackets?

Have they discontinued the octalink bottom bracket? They seem to be very scarce on my usual choice of shops (wiggle/CRC?).
I'm after a bottom bracket and was wondering what the difference is between a standard type and an e type. Obviously you can only run an e type mech with the e type bb? but I have a standard mech so would it make any difference if I was to run an e type bottom bracket compared to a standard?

you would need to add a spacer to compensate for the e type plate.
Octalink is still being produced and sold."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Any good suppliers of cheap BB then? WIggle seemed to have deore ones for £40 which is way more than the last ones I bought.0

all prices went up by about 20% earlier in the year. hence all new bikes were lower spec for the same money or higher price for the same spec when they were announced for 2009."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
