Thinking of running a dual ring setup on the front (currently only 1 ring) and wondering what is the biggest difference in chainring sizes you can have on a normal mech? 22 -34 is usual but can you go to 22-36 or something?

also seen this mech: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=27691
which says its suitable for dual rings 22-36. can I use 24-38 instead? I guess it just comes down to moving the mech up and down the seat tube?

  • 22 - 36 is OK with a 'normal' mech too.

You can do these ratios, but not ideal. New SLX double sorts this out. Or maybe that saint.

    Carefully check the numbers.

Though... in a pinch what you have with a tweak is often good ;-)
  • a tweak? how easy is it to mod it to make it more suitable?
went n bought a deore mech for £14 for the cheapness but now thinking i should've gone with the double!
  • I run 26 - 36 now, so less of a jump from one to the other.

    I used to run 22 - 36 though.

You can buy 24 - 36 with bashring cranksets so that must be OK still.
