Where do Shimano R600 and R700 components such as chainsets fit into the normal,Tiagra,105,Ultegra hierachy?
I`ve seen various R600 and R700 chainsets online at tempting prices but was wondering how these compare with the normal Shimano offerings?

  • I think R600 is nominally Ultegra.

However, I have some long drop R600 brakes and they are more similar to my 105 brakes than my Ultegra brakes.

    I think R600 = 105, R700 = Ultegra

R700 was Shimano's first compact chainset and was sold as Ultegra / Dura-ace. Now a bit old hat and should be available at a good discount. I would say the R600 is 105 / Tiagra. The recommended BB is the Tiagra one.
  • So any I see are basically old stock?
Is a new Tiagra as good as an R600.? They are priced similarly online?
Anyone know relative weights of the 2?
