Speedpay pedal adjustment - Help!
Ok, i just treated myself to some Speedplay Zeros and I am amazed to find that while you can adjust the float angle (very nice), you can't adjust the release tension! Surely that is rather more important? Even SPD-SLs allow you to do that that!
Or am I missing something? No use looking at the instructions, of course, becase (like all of them, they're rubbish!)

You’re not missing anything. That’s right, you can’t adjust the release tension only the release point.
Different release tension is determined by the different models of Zero pedals.I’m a sprinter – I warmed up yesterday.0 -
kin ell!
Isn't that rather an important adjustment to leave out?0 -

Most of the other pedals SPD-SL, Look, Time, etc use the release tension as a method to try to stop pulling your foot. The Speedplay design gets around that by the ramp design. I use SPD-SL for the road but Zero Track for track racing because of their reputation for not being able to pull your foot.I’m a sprinter – I warmed up yesterday.0 -
ok. Thanks for that. I shall persevere.0

Check that you haven't overtightened the cleat mounting screws (you might have to read the instructions I'm afraid) because that can affect the effort required to disengage the cleat.0

Seems to me you bought these pedals without understanding the concept of Speedplays. Hope that doesn't sound too harsh, it isn't meant to be.
I suggest you read the FAQs on the website.

I'm amazed you think the instructions are rubbish! 4 pages of timy font size for pedals!
I think they are comprehensively overkill, especially the General Safety Information, which has gems like Riding bicycles is an inherrently dangerous activity.
I love speedplays.0 -

''Did the pedals instructions explicitly say they might be used for cycling?''
''Have you been injured? You may be entitled to a Cash Award!"
Bloody Yanks.

You don't need tension adjustment. Always put a little dry lube on the spring in the cleats every other ride. Also they are a bit stiffer when they are new. Its important to read the instructions. They are great pedals but a more tricky to set up than other pedals.0
