Wireless rear wheel speed sensor

Does anyone know of any computers that are supplied with a wireless chainstay mounted speed sensor thus allowing the magnet to be connected to a rear wheel spoke?

I currently have the Cateye Strada Wireless Computer but this only takes readings from the front wheel. Therefore, when I'm on my turbo trainer I am unable to know how many miles I have completed etc etc.

I don't particularly want to spend £160 on a new turbo that comes with a computer but will consider this if I am unable to purchase an appropriate computer.

Many thanks

  • Garmin speed/cadence units are mounted on the chainstay. GPS probably a bit of an overkill for a trainer but maybe you'll be able to pick an Edge 305 with Cadence Sensor cheap or second hand?

My Polar CS600 can cope with the Speed/Distance sensor being mounted at the rear for use on the Turbo. I've got it on a seatstay, with the cadence sensor opposite the chain stay. It does however say to mount the Speed sensor on the front fork if you use a Power sensor at the back as well. I do not, so it's no issue for me.
  • If your not bothered about having sight of your figures whilst your on the trainer, so put the wireless display unit on the floor next to the rear wheel. They normally work within 50-75cm of the sendor!

CatEye do a computer ("V2C") with a combined speed / cadence sensor that mounts on the chainstay. Its in that Zyro accessory catalogue that falls out of the cycling mags twice a year.

  • OK, many thanks for the replies.

I'm considering the Garmin Edge 305. There are two on ebay, slightly used condition for £100 and £105 respectively.

For the turbo I mount the sensor for my bike computer on a seatstay, with the magnet on a rear spoke and the computer sat halfway along the toptube where its just within range of the sensor and i can look down on it whilst on the turbo.
  • Polar sensors can be adjusted to have a higher output so you can use them on the rear wheel .

You could do this with the VDO range of digital wireless computers and sensors. Probably Sigma's range too, but I have no experience of them.
  • I have a Cateye Strada Wired cadence, which did speed from the back wheel, was £25-30ish.

    This one in fact:
