seat post advice
Hello there,
Got a Carrera Virago that comes with a truvativ team seatpost
The review on here mentions would be better with carbon one.
I can get the team carbon from the net with 50% off but it says for the "set back " one only at that price.
So , as my first road bike, will i notice any difference, and is the seatpost i already have a set back one?
I was looking to keep to the Truvativ stuff to match the rest of the bike but if got some recommendations let me know.
Thanks

The seatpost set back won't make any difference because you should set your saddle so that the front of your knee is over the pedal spindle when the cranks are level. So the saddle position will be effectively fixed in relation to the frame.what will change with a post with more set back is where the post clamps the saddles rails,it will be further back.
Hope I've explained this ok lol.0 -
My theory is "why get a new one if the one you have works well" and there's not much about a seat post that has to work well except holding the saddle. IMHO you won't notice any difference(and I have ridden both). If it's bling you want then carbon can give you a bit of wow factor but in the end a seat post has to hold the seat. You won't "go faster"
with a carbon post either. But who am I to tell you what to buy or not buy. If it's what you want then go for it. For what it's worth I was riding an Easton EC90 carbon post but switched to a Thomson aluminum because 3 of our racing clubs members had their
carbon ones break(various brands). That's about the last thing I want to have happen to me, so back
to metal. Just seemed to make sense.

Have to agree with Dennis. I cannot subscribe to the "one seatpost being more comfortable than another" camp - it's a pole up yer a**e after all. If it's lighter or prettier, fine by me, but not words like "plusher".0

Hi there.
No, no, no - no!
That's not the right advice... We need to spend our way out of this recession and keep the bike industry alive and kicking!
Buy the most bling white carbon seatpost that you can afford.
