Hi,

There seem to be no outlets anywhere at all to buy rims. I have my eyes on either an Edge or a Zipp rim to use with my Powertap, but google's giving me nothing to check prices. My fave bike shop, Paul Hewitt, will be asked to supply and build the thing, but I want to get an idea of price online.

Are rims not generally available to Joe Public?

Cheers,.

    Paul Hewitt should be able to get you prices on individual rims - generally the likes of Zipp, HED and so forth are reluctant to deal with Joe Public for the sake that they make a hash of the build. You can also get Ambrosio carbon rims through RSI.

    aha that makes sense - only sell to bike shops and so reduce the hassle of dealing with badly built wheels. Getcha. Still it would be nice to get guide prices before going to chat to Paul about it.

    Thanks Monty Dog!

    I remember somebody coming into the shop with a HED carbon rim he'd attempted to build and managed to pull the spoke nipple through and complaining about the quality of the product. When quizzed about his wheel-building skills, it amounted to 'this one' - we hadn't supplied the rim but somehow he expected us to sort out the mess - we sent him off to find some Araldite!

    Just out of interest, does anyone know roughly how much a single Zipp 620 tubular would cost, say, the RRP?

    Andy,

    I've just picked up a pair of Lew VT-1 rims from a shop in Germany. They were half price so might be worth considering?

    If you're prepared to wade through German then a few shops over there seem to sell rims direct to the consumer. These guys are another one who seem to do so;
