Riding in the Snow

Had a great day out riding in the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh....
5 peaks, from East Kip to Turnhouse Hill.....
If you have not been riding in the snow....go do it immediately... it is now the funnest thing in my world. Can't keep a straight line...loads of over the bars moments, and watch out for big white patches...they are usually deep!
Really struggled on the ups with my High Rollers, but it didn't seem to make much difference on the way down.
I would also like to raise a glass to the super friendly folks we met out....everyone seemed in good spirits (and laughed when I abandoned ship over the bars).
Top marks to the walker who asked us why we were not at Glentress, and then proceeded to fall on his back and slide down in to the quarry-shelter area we had stopped in. You are a star!

It is the funniest thing in the world.........
........Till your bike decides its going to follow you and embeds a peddle into your thigh which knida hurts. Would do it again though (the snow, not the peddle)0 -

I know how you feel bud i adore snow and im like a little kid in it.
Some of my fondest memories are in the snow with some of my old riding buddies, one being when we went to pub and it was just cold out and when we left at kicking out time it was about three inches white over it was ace, it took us about two hours to drunkenly stagger home as we were playing in the snow lol
Unfortunately we never get snow anymore and i dont see many if any of my old riding buddies anymore"Don't ask the reasons why cos there arent any, don't follow convention, never say no, just believe in what you see and let the good times roll!"0 -
when (if) it snows early 2009 , which it usually does where i live , i'm definately going mtbing , there's this huge hill which me and my mates have been up and down a few times! but i want to upgrade that to a mountain! , i live near "cadair idris" in mid/north Wales which there's loads of mountains around! , i've definately gotta go there and try it out!"Giant NRS 4 2003"

riding in the snow is ace. Panaracer Spikes come into their own.
Even better is snow night rides, with a thermos full of hot port, and mince pies in the camelbak0 -

you are definately welcome to join us! We usually have a wee hipflask full of single malt for those occasions, but some nice warm port and a wee mince pie sounds the very berry.Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

Brr...
I think, if I have my bearings right, this is the view of Turnhouse Hill, Carnethy Hill and Scald Law, from the side of Harbour Hill, on sunday... I think on the day you took your pic I was down in the valleys instead, thinking "That looks slippy up there... I'll stay down here where it's dry"Uncompromising extremist0 -
You're right.... It really is the best laugh, I also agree with the riding in the snow at night comment, its a wonderful surreal experience.
Snaking downhill on virgin powder, doesn't matter when you fall off, it - generally - doesn't hurt! And of course there's the old gag of flicking bushes as you pass them and laugh as the guy behind gets buried under snow!!
I was amazed at how my tyres gripped on the harder packed stuff. AND you end up with a gorgeous clean bike at the end of it - my tyres looked NEW!!
But I fear this may all be over for another year.
Roll on the long hot summer.....0
