I've looked at Mavic XM 819s after reading desent worlds write up their lightweight DH project, but have also read on here that they tend to be a bit narrow for 2.3 or wider tyres.

I've toyed with running an EX 823 rim on the rear for clumsy riding and an XM 819 on the front, but is this overkill.

I'm 85Kg ride a Cannondale Prophet MX for fast UK trails, light DH and freeride duties and want to go tubless without using sealant etc.

What are the other tubeless alternatives (bear in mind the MX has a 135 x 12mm rear hub, so I'm guessing Mavic SX or XL are out!)

  • personally I like the DT Rims and their own Tubeless conversion kits you could get the built up with DT 5.1's and then fit the tubeless rims strips and away you go, CRC or Just Riding Along do the DT kits and Merlin can build you up wheels with DT rims. I have used them for about 3 years now and been very impressed with DT's kits.

On the no sealant front, most successful tubeless users run sealant in tyres wether UST or not. It is dead easy to use and adds hardly any weight.

as with daves answer, you will want to run sealant on any tubeles set up (and i have tried most of them!!)

i have used the 819 rims and they are brilliant but are still quite narrow for \DH and freeride duties i would say.

819s are spot on for 2.3s but would be narrow for 2.5s and out of the question for 2.7s.
