...Oli Beckingsdale was in Cycling Weekly last week on a road bike...don't feel bad. As far as I'm concerned all this road bike, mountain bike nonsense is a waste of time it's all cycling...I ride road and off road and sometimes I ride my mountain bike on road...
...all the way...'til the wheels fall off and burn...

I enjoy a bit of road riding too, mainly when I can't be bothered driving to the mountains!

Not the best time of year to get one, keep thinking about going out on mine then remembering how well the thin tyres cope with ice - not very it turns out.

Have fun anyway! By the way, what did you get?
Current steed is a '07 Carrera Banshee X
    + cheap road/commuting bike
  • i have a road bike, not having the breacon beacons on my door step any more, i have to drive somewhere to play in the mud, while with old red i can just hop on and head off.
  • I too have a road bike, I bought it as I live in the fens, so mountain biking is a bit lacking in my area, and riding a 29lb full susser with knobblies is not much fun. You'll love the speed difference, they really are mile munchers. I'm not particularly fit  but I can easily do 25-30 miles on the road bike without aching too much!

    What did you go for?

Oh, and don't worry, you don't have to be a full convert! I still have hairy legs and wear baggy shorts! I don't use my camelback, and I take the peak off my helmet, but that's as far as I've gone so far! I did buy a pair of bling carbon cages for water bottles though! 8)

(it's Gillet Mach 3 for me. Rub baby oil into your legs whilst in the shower to shave - leaves your legs nice and smooth...)

Up to this year I raced triathlons so had no choice but to train some of my weekly mileage On the road, but now I have stopped racing my road bike has become a cobweb collector In the shed. My fixed commuter bike started life as a road bike and still has 700 wheels If that counts.
It's not a ornament, so ride It

I nearly succumbed earlier this year but ended up converting an old MTB into a commuter. Still fancy a full on road bike though.

Have every intention of riding it with Camelback and helmet with visor though.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

    )

I didn't want to go mad, as other than a couple of old Raleigh racers when I was a kid, I've not had much dealings with road bikes. So I went for this.....

Not a bike if it has more than 2 wheels, not quite sure the term for something with 700 wheels
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I too succumbed to the darkside recently - got a planet x superlight team. As said above - good when I can't be arsed getting in the car - there's not much decent off road locally but some lovely scenery you can get to on roads.

Plus, cycling on the road helps your general cycling fitness. My main reason for commuting by cycle, that.

Very true, I think a regular commute is great for that.

I bought an OLD steel road bike, so that I could leave it locked up all day outside my local train station. Wouldn't dream of leaving my MTB there tho.

Couldn't resist chopping down and flipping the handle bars tho, cow horn style! 8)

Mmmmwwwwuhaahhaaahhaaaa! Welcome to the Dark Side!

Horses for courses in my opinion, I think it's a totally different experience to mountain biking. Whilst I absolutely love a decent thrash round a proper trail, around here it's as flat as a fart and really muddy in the winter, and I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion I prefer road biking at this time of year, and save the MTBing and associated hour cleaning rituals for proper weekends away. Getting back on your MTB after a road session feels like you are trying to ride the biggest, heaviest, slowest thing on the planet!

Ah, you've obviously reached that magical age where the bumps are a little too much for the old bones. Don't worry we'll all get there someday, you'll be taking up golf next and trying to convince us it's a sport...

I am ashamed of you and your weak will, go and sit in the corner and think about what you have done!

(I actually have no problem with road bikes, or golf for that matter, but a little mick taking is fun)
