SRAM Force Right Crank Loose
Hiya
I have SRAM force on my Look 585 frame. I noticed a creak coming from the right crank on inspection there is some lateral movement of the crank.
The 8 mm bolt is done up to the recommended torque.
Any ideas on what it might be/what i should do?
Cheers

Are the cranks new or used? If used, it could be down to worn bearings or incorrect assembly. If new, again incorrect assembly or the BB shell is undersize or crank spindle length is oversize i.e. the crank is bottoming-out on the splines before taking up the end-load. If the latter 2, you can fit a spacer behind the BB cup. Probably best to get your LBS to help with the diagnosis.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Thanks for the reply MD
An update and answers to questions.
the crankset is secondhand. i was told that it would not have done more than 1000miles at the very tops. i have done around 500miles on it.
It was fine when i first got it i.e. no play at all.
having a play around with it this evening.
i have took the cranks off and cleaned and re greased. nothing looked bad although i am fairly new to 'new' bike parts.
one thing i noticed was that the spindle that is attached to the righthand crank wiggles a bit i.e. if i hold the chainrings sturdy i can wiiggle the spindle slightly. is this normal?
this is about the same amount of movement i get when the whole lot is put together.
when i insert the spindle into the bottom bracket all seems tight on the right side but there seems to be a small bit of play where the spindle comes out of the left side.
i have took apart, added grease and torqued several times and the problem is still there.
does this description help diagnosis?
this is perhaps a really stupid question but i am guessing i should not ride the bike until i sort this?

I take it you mean 'no thats not normal' going on the rest of your post.

The spindle should be absolutely firm in the crank spider. Sounds to me as though you might have a potential warranty claim - there's no way that the spindle should work lose under any conditions - take it to your LBS and ask them to get the Fisher rep to have a look. Worryingly, i've just bought some SRAM cranks for a new build!Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Just an update for completeness.
The crank was indeed faulty and i got a new crankset on the warranty.
so good news in the end0 -
Im having the exact same problem with my Sram force crank. Mines done hardly any miles and is in perfect condition apart from the movement, which renders it useless. I e-mailed Sram and the reply I got was that they are not obliged to deal with it. I think thats very bad customer service. I have e-mailed them back and told them I think there reply was a lot less than I would have expected after paying a lot of money for the crank and all the other sram components I've bought. ill let you know when/if I get a reply. I have also e-mailed consumer direct and am awaiting a reply from them.0

I had the same problem with SRAM Apex and GXP team cups. However with the supplied Apex BB cups all is OK. I just think SRAM Bottom Brackets are rubbish.0

SRAM's service is actually very good, but your contract is not with SRAM or Fisher, it is with whichever bikeshop sold you the kit in the first place.0
