Carbon wheel braking
I have a pair of zipp 440's that i intend to use for time trials and crits but not training. as the wheels will be going between two bikes all the time i was wondering what braking would be like with a carbon specific pad on aluminum rims as i don't really want to change brake blocks over all the time for my training wheels.
thanks in advance

I think braking is fine using swissstop yellow kings on an alloy rim. I have had the wear is particularly bad though.
One thing to bear in mind is that you will need to thoroughly check the pads for any embedded aluminium when switching back to the carbon rims. So it might just be easier to have separate sets of pads for the different wheels and not worry about it.0 -
was also wondering what type of pads tektro brakes take, shimano or campag pattern. thanks0

If you use Campag calipers it takes 5 minutes to swap pads. Probably less time than cleaning alloy shards from a set of carbon pads.
SwissStop yellows are about the best on carbon rims but don't work that well on alloy. They certainly wear on carbon a lot better than the Campagnolo carbon pads which you can burn up to the wear limits in a few days in the Alps. SwissStop do say they can be used on both but I wouldn't do it or recommend it. You only have to miss a bit of alloy and your carbon rims could be badly damaged.
I *think* Tektro brakes take Shimano pads but not certain.0 -
Tektro brakes definitely take Shimano pattern pads.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
