hi I'm just stripping a bike down to frame. I remembered too late to set the rear derailleur cable to its slackest posistion, and now everything is off and the cable head now won't pop out of the shifter.

do i have to take apart the shifter or is there a trick i am missing?

ta

    What shifter is it?

Generally, if you activate the shift lever while pulling the cable by hand, the barrel will turn, allowing the cable to be removed.

I've done this plenty times. You just click the inside lever (black plastic) till it reaches the limit, and the cable comes out no bother.
