which mtb for commuting etc

hi dudes wondering if some one can help me out a little bit my mtb is knackered and was wondering which mtb would be best to buy for commuting and slight off road use? dont wanna spend a lot may be 300 quid poss a little more? thanks in advance

How far off road do you want to venture? If just very light trails and paths than hybrid may be better.
