folks,
swapping a og1070 10 speed cassette onto a set of fulcrum racing 7's.... however the cassette has been sitting in a bag for a while and I don't remember if it needs a spacer before you put the first bit of the cassette on?
does it need a spacer before any part of the cassette goes on or is it ok with just putting it straight onto the freehub body? I am mechanically inexperienced....

Are your wheel set old or brand new?? If so, your cassette body shouldn't require a spacer... But on old set wheels, you might need a spacer (for 8-9 speed cassette body for example)0

they're brand new..... but not this years... I think.
got them from merlin cycles....
the manual for the sprocket compatibility says for shimano 10 speed it requires a spacer... it also mentions the sram cassette and says they can just go straight on... no mention of a spacer... so perhaps its ok?
will it do any damage running it without a spacer if it needs one?========================================

Sorry to gatecrash but I've got a similar question - Should the spacer (if a spacer is needed) come with the wheel or the cassette?
I got just a 10-spd 105 cassette to put on an old Vuelta wheel I have (so 8,9,10-spd) - should the spacer come with the cassette or the wheel? I can't remember getting the spacer with the wheel (it was used 8-spd) and the cassette doesn't seem to have one.0 -
comes with the cassette, this depends on the ratio for ex a Shimano 12-25 uses spacer a 14-25 not (talking shimano 10 speed here°0

If it rattles without a spacer but lockring tight, put one on and it should stop... :?0

Check this article on Bikeradar:

8 fitting and tightening the lockring
Once all the sprockets are fitted, check that the top gear-sprocket stands slightly proud of the freehub body - if not, you have missed out a spacer or shim. Fit the lockring using the lockring tool, refit the quick-release without its conical springs and tighten the lockring with an adjustable spanner until you hear or feel three or four distinct clicks. Remove the quick-release. Refit the quick-release's conical springs and refit the quick-release to the wheel.0
