Did you adjust the top cap? this adds preload onto the stem and needs to be adjusted before you tighten the stem bolts that clamp onto the steerer tube.

what did you do to want to tighten it?
    fit anything new?

  • stem bolts lose, top cap tightened up, stem bolts tightened.
Squeeze brakes & wobble wobble wobble

feels like top cap needs another half turn but it's not there
  • sorry nicklouse missed your reply.

Shorter stem (head up for the rainy days). same diameter as old one, spacer thingy inside old one swapped over.

Ok is it the same stack height? the top cap may be bottoming out on the steerer.

the top of the steerer should be a few mm down below the stem ( or above with added spacer if recommended).

take the top cap off and have a look.

if you are not sure take a picture and post it.

    but an example.

  • a ha - they are level.

Will go try again in the morning

Thanks yorkshire sweden man - hope that fixes it
  • Fixed it cheers.

had to add another spacer to achieve height.

But i'm a bit confused because it was fine before and the stem was a like-for-like replacement.

I had exactly the same problem and could not for the life of me figure it out.
I checked all the websites I could and forums but the damn thing still wobbled - realised I'd taken a spacer out when upgrading my stem - doh!
It's a good feeling when you've solved it though!!
