Hi all,
Im trying to rejuvenate my old fixed frame rockhopper comp... its pre1997 but not sure by how much, possibly 1994.
Its going to become a bike to go to work on. the crankset, chain, cassette amongst other things need replacing.
ive been on chainreaction to have a look at some things, wondered if there would be any compatibly issues at all?

Chain - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=25424
Cassette - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... ModelID=55
i will need a new rear derailleur, new cables for both gears and brakes but thats more housekeeping rather than essentials, the above needs replacing now!

Is the bike 8 speed already, and a rear cassette, not a freewheel?
You need to know the bottom bracket axle length to match the crank.0 -

sorry im confused by what you mean about "a rear cassette, not a freewheel."
I think i might need a new bottom bracket from what a mate said yesterday... thats as old as the bike so the bearings are probably not so happy.

Hi,
Try identifying if your bike has a freewheel or cassette by spinning the sprockets backwards. Freewheel splines do not turn when spun, Cassettes splines do turn when spun.0 -
hi,
well i havent taken the bottom bracket out, but i measured the length of the bit of frame the bottom bracket goes through (great terminology there i know!) at 80mm. how does this bottom bracket fit in with that measurement and also the crankset?

80mm? Should be 68mm or 73mm. This is the shell width - the axle length is dependant on the cranks, so I will look it up for the one you linked to.0

i would imagine it was 73 then. the measurement was evidently not 100% accurate... suppose it would be a good idea to take the old one off first.0
