Mounting front light

Hi all, I've just bought a road bike (mountain bikes up to now) and i thought I'd put the front light off the mtb on it. Unfortunately, the bracket that fits around the handlebars is too small, or the bars are too thick  Are there specific mountings for race bars? They seem to be very fat in the middle and if I try and put the bracket further along the bars I'd be clamping the cable under the tape. Hope this doesn't come across as a bit lame, but the last road bike I rode had a bracket on the fork leg to mount a lamp.(Many, many years ago). Thanks in advance, Steve.

You have encountered a problem many find with the oversize bars on road bikes these days. Easiest/cheapest solution is to rider in daylight only  You might be able to get an oversized bracket for you light.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

What sort of light is it?

If you use a torch type light (like the Fenix L2D or LD20, which are popular round here) you can use a Twofish Lockblock which fits perfectly on my oversize road bars.

I had exactly the same problem with my Cateye light. However they do make a bigger bracket which can be bought separately. Problem solved.
