Time RXS models, what's the difference?

I'm thinking of getting some Time RXS pedals, but now I find that there are three low end models - First, Edge and Racer - that seem to have the same description on any web site I find, yet their prices are very different. Can anybody explain the differences between them?

  • The RXEs are the base model.

The RXS pedals have a feature called "Sensor Elasticity Tuner (S.E.T.)". I've got no idea what that does. I don't think it's the same as adjustable spring tension.

Then there's the new time ZEN pedals, which seem to have got a few bad reviews...
  • I use the RXE's on my commuter and have the full on CArbon ti ulteam RXS models on my good bike and the only differences I notice are that the RXS feel more secure all round and are slightly lower profile so the shoe is closer to the pedal. I think it basically comes down to weight, float and serviceability - not entirely sure the jump in price between them is justified though as I find the RXE's do the job well enough.

  • RXEs and carbon RXSs are obviously different models. But if you look at http://www.wiggle.co.uk/mc/Cycle/7/Time/Pedals_-_Road_Clip-In/, then you can see the RXS Edge Road (£59.39), RXS First Road (£47.69), RXS Racer Road (£79.19) and RXS Road (£74.69) all listed with identical descriptions (steel/composite, etc.) and weights (260g). So what's the difference between them?

The RXE and RXS Carbon I bought came with pedal reflectors while the Xen and the RXS First and Edge don't, that's what Wiggle sales told me anyway. I'm positive that the Xen don't because I bought a pair before the new cheaper RXS appeared.

Given the choice I'd go for the RXE but they're hard to find now so the RXS First look an adequate alternative. Annoyed about the lack of reflectors though as it is nice have the chance to be road legal at night.

Definitely wouldn't recommend the Xen. They are ridiculously difficult to clip-in and always spin the wrong way up when you unclip. Makes hill starts interesting, especially in the dark. The large platform is nice though.

Time's range looks a bit messed up at the moment they should have just left it alone.

basically get the titanium ones if you are a weightweenie, otherwise buy the cheapest as the weight and functional difference in the others in minimimal. Although if you have to have white stuff there is one for you too!

I ride Time and like them, I have the old RXE (plastic body, steel axle), the carbon RXS (Cro mo steel axle), and the RXS ulteam Ti (Carbon body, ti axle) and they all feel the same to me when riding. I like the float of all of them.

Prices seem to have gone up a lot in the last year though - or is it just Wiggle using their powerful market position again?
