so you say the crankset end is ok. so have a look at the wheel end.

If the clunking occurs at the same points during each pedal revolution, the problem must be at the crank end. If it clunking 'moves', it might be in the freewheel.0

I had a 'strange vibrationy sensation' when pedalling in some gears on my new Giant Terrago. Took it back to my LBS and they located it to the cassette ?
Everything was Shimano apart from the cassette which was Sram - this surprised my LBS but they said it shouldn't have caused a problem but swapped it for a Shimano cassette and this sorted the problem.
My problem was much more a vibration sensation in some gear combinations rather than a clunking as you suggest.
Can you take it back to a LBS to get them to look it over and ride it round the carpark to check it out ?0
