Sram/Dura-Ace compatibility?

Has anybody tried SRAM shifters with a DURA-ACE 7800 rear mech? I like the double tap system but don't want to have to change to a SRAM mech.

  • The cable pull is different so this combination won't shift at all well.
  • Does anyone know the different cable pull ratios for both?
  • They won't work together at all. The Sram pulls 1:1, same amount of cable pulle at the lever as the rear mech travels up or down or sideways at thge cassette. Shimano and Campag both move twice as much at the back as at the front. The Shimano system has to have much bigger springs to overcome the discrepancy, Sram will have much lighter springs and consequently can cope much better with other wear and tear in the system as a whole (wonky cable tension, worn bushings, old chain etc).
The Sram is a development of the off-road X series gears.

Almost true. The ratio of the off-road X series is close to 1:1, but not quite exactly. Meanwhile the road series has a different pull ratio to the off-road stuff (which is a definte retrograde step IMHO), so less than 1:1, but still more than Shimano or Campag.
