Halfords......

My employer is introducing the Ride to Work scheme, and, despite my lobbying, has chosen Halfords as the supplier.
I'd look to spend my full £1,000 entitlement under the scheme - so are their Boardman bikes any good, bearing in mind I'd effectively get it at half-price?
Thanks In Advance

Halords can order in many different makes, not just their normal off the shelf range.Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0

Aaah - didn't know that.
<googles Bianchi as a smile spreads over his face>

I don't - I know how to build bikesCarlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0

Which brings us neatly back to my initial post.
Thanks for the information0 -
Yes... Unless you know your local Halford's mechanic is good, getting it set up yourself or elsewhere is a prudent investment of a little of the savings!0

Halfords have helpfully provided a (actually rather impressive) list of brands they can offer0

Care to tell us?0

I still haven't spent my voucher but have had a really good look around. Here is what I have found:
1: Halfords can source many other brands than the ones they offer.
2: You can now get bikes that Halfords cannot source through a bike shop. I spoke with someone in my LBS and he explained the process. Not sure if that is available through all bike shops or just a selected few.
3: Not all Halfords stock Boardmans. The ones that do tend to have better qualified staff. That doesn't mean that they are better motivated or helpful though! The Boardman site lists the Halfords that stock them.
4: You can have your bike delivered to any Halfords. If you think a particular one has better mechanics then you can have them supply your bike. My closest Halfords is completely cr*p. The one 15 miles from me is much better.
Hope this helps.
But as far as your original question goes I think the Boardman bikes are great value for money. The only unknown is the frame I guess, but others seem to be happy with it. Having said that the Cube LTD Race is currently top of my list! Just waiting for Boardmans to arrive near me so I can see in the flesh, possibly try and then make a final decision.No-one wanted to eat Patagonia Toothfish so they renamed it Chilean Sea Bass and now it's in danger of over fishing!0 -

Comisserations ... to the best of my knowledge.. Half***** will only source 2009 models at FULL RRP, (they take a % cut allegedly) ..you would be better finding a good deal on a discounted 2008 bike, you would probably save money, and benefit from direct service at your LBS ..
:? :? :?.. who said that, internet forum people ?0
