Exposure Joystick Maxx vs Maxx-2 beam

I currently have a Joystick Maxx + Fenix L2D on my road bike, the Joystick is nice and bright but more a flood beam pattern than a spot so it doesn't penetrate more than about 15m ahead which isn't enough if I'm doing 20mph+ on country roads. So I got a Fenix as a spot beam to complement it which does work pretty well, can get it out to about 30m whilst still providing useful light (i.e. can see pot holes and debris in the road well before I hit it :p ).

I prefer the convenience of the Joystick though and not having to worry about changing batteries mid ride if I'm out over 2 hours (I need to run the Fenix on it's brightest setting for it to be of any use) and I keep reading the Joystick Maxx 2 has a spot beam pattern. Has anyone used both the Maxx and Maxx 2 versions and could let me know how the beams compare? I don't want to invest in a Maxx-2 just to find out it's the same type of beam as the Maxx just slightly brighter.

Any other lights out there that are small (preferably self-contained), have a tightly focused spot beam, at least 200 lumens and a built-in Li-Ion battery (min. 2 hour life on brightest setting)? The Lupine Tesla looks interesting but a bit pricey (ideally want to keep it under £150) and from reviews it might not be as much of a spot beam as I need.

  • I was going to get, and will get when I have some cash, the Light and Motion Stella LED 200. LBS is doing for £139.95.

However, can't really talk it up that much as I've never used one, although the LBS (as they do) talked it up.
