Do you race it at all? If not then no need to get lighter wheels...The std ones on my SCR 1.5 do the job perfectly well....I think they are the same as yours. Alex DA22's.
In terms of the groupset...are you happy with the shifting etc....What do you have...is it the Sora groupset with Tiagra front mech or something like that?? I think mine was the cheapest Giant with full Tiagra
Do you have any areas that you obviously think needs done?
If it ain't broke then don't fix it.17 Stone down to 12.5 now raring to get back on the bike!0 -

I would definitely get new tyres. I changed to Vittoria Rubino Pro's because I wanted blue tyres to match the bike (black got delivered) and the ride is much nicer in my opinion. The tyres are both grippier and more supple at the same pressure. I upgraded the wheels to Open Pro on Shimano 105 hubs. I can't really say that they make much difference in comprison with the DA22s. I can't just swap the wheels over to check this because I have the old tyres on the DA22s and they swamp the difference between the wheels.100% ME!

I have noticed a lack of grip but I just put that down to the change from MTB to road bike. I was prepared to just put up with it as I didn't know any better.
My opinion from earlier still stands though.....unless there is something that you think isn't right or doesn't work properly then I would leave it alone and spend the £300 on something useful....such as a turbo trainer or Garmin 305/605/705....those would be my choices for £300 burning a hole in my pocket anyway..everyone's tastes are different.17 Stone down to 12.5 now raring to get back on the bike!0 -
I almost agree.
If you have £300 then spend £30 on a pair of tyres, you will feel the difference, and forget new wheels until they break. If the spoke tension is as high as it is on my DA22s then that could be a long time.100% ME!

Good areas in which to invest some cash include: better brake pads, pump/tools, pedals/shoes and clothing. OTOH some could argue that spending money doing things you might not otherwise do is more worthwhile.
If you still hanker after a pair of wheels (which would be an upgrade from the SCR's DA22s) then wait until January and go bargain-hunting in the sales. I've not looked at that price range but for less than £200 you can find Fulcrum 5s, Easton Vista SLs or Shimano 105s. Or, at the risk of opening a can of worms, you could alternatively consider a pair of handbuilts from the likes of Harry Rowland or Paul Hewitt.Aspire not to have more, but to be more.0 -
I have a Trek 1200 with a similar sort of spec.
My only upgrades have been to swap to a Fizik Arione saddle, and I have a pair of Schwalbe Stelvios waiting to go on.
I have also found that tyres make a huge difference for little outlay.
If I had £300 spare,I`d probably sell my existing bike and add the £300,to buy another better ,but 2nd handbike, from the classifieds.
There are some stunning barains around if you know where to look.2006 Giant XTC
