Just bought one. After only a few minutes of light spinning with virtually no resitance I'm transferring rubber from my conti gp4000 tyre and brake unit roller v v hot, even though I've adjusted it to only just touch the tyre.

Guess I need a training tyre but maybe something else is set up wrong?

have you calibrated it as per the instructions? proper calibration will have the tyre pushed quite hard against the roller. it should look as it would if you were sat on your bike on the road.
if your tyre is only just touching the roller it could be slipping and causing more friction and heat.

  • I use a gp4000 (cant be bothered with changing tyres, or getting a spare wheel..) with no probs - doesnt get that warm even after a couple of hours use

Perhaps, as sloxam suggests, try tightening the roller up till the calibration is at zero and see how you get on first.

Unless of course your second name is Hoy and you're pushing out 1000w for an hour :)
