Hi fellas, its spot the noob time.... :D

Work is takin part in a cycle to work scheme, and it seems as good a time as any to upgrade my 15 year old Claud Butler Xanthia :lol:

Its got to be through Wheelies direct and ive narrowed it down to these:

Genesis Altitude 00 2009 http://www.wheelies.co.uk/products-Alti ... _21624.htm steel :?:

Scott Aspect 20 2009 http://www.wheelies.co.uk/products-Aspe ... _19388.htm let down by the suntour forks? I've ridden this one....very nice!

CANNONDALE F4 2008 http://www.wheelies.co.uk/products-F4-2008_13610.htm what are the forks on these like?

Specialized Rockhopper Comp Disc 2009
http://www.wheelies.co.uk/products-Rock ... _21750.htm my personal favourite, upgradeable frame?

Giant XTC 3 2009 http://www.wheelies.co.uk/products-XTC-3-2009_20263.htm my m8 has an xtc3.5 and he loves it, seems well specced too

Alll in all im gonna get a good bike for £700ish surely, just hoping some of you knowledgeable fellas may push me in th right direction :D

im gonna try and get out and test all these bikes of course

many thanks in advance

well there lots of differnt frame types there.

the scots have short top tubes ....the giants are longer..

sorry try them first and then come back with a short list of what suits.

  • like i say ive ridden the scott and that feels nice, nice and roomy, it was a 17" frame....when i went to check the hopper out, he advised a 19"....

Thats the problems, listed sizes vary so much! Not just seat tube, but length, standover height etc.

All the bikes are pretty good value - the Scott having a budget fork though (its good, but the Toras are much better).

The steel framed bike may give a softer ride, but will be heavier.

I've ridden the Genesis and I have to say I LOVE it. The frame is light and it does for some gnarlier descents than the others with 130mm travel.
  • bumpety bump :p
