Will a shimano XT cassette fit a 700C wheelset (Xero XR-1)?

Hi,

Not much more I can add to the title! Buying a pair of Xero XR-1s for my crosser to replace the lead weights it currently has :)

It came setup with an MTB rear mech (LX) and a heavy 9 speed MTB cassette. Will a MTB XT cassette fit on a the 700C Xero XR-1s? The site lists the hub as 'shimano compatble' S8/9 speed?

Thanks!

The only problem you may have is that original Shimano 10 speed hubs were narrower than 9 speed ones . There fore any 9 speed hub will take 8,9 and 10 speed blocks but 10 speed hubs will only take 10 or 8.
hope that helps rather than confuses

Not really very useful, given he doesn't have a Shimano hub, and it's listed as 8/9 speed compatible. In any case a 10-speed only hub won't actually take an 8-speed cassette as you claim.
  • 8 speed cassettes definitely work on the cheaper R550 RS20? wheels

and he answer is it will fit. with no issues.

all current Shimano MTB cassettes are the same fitting even the 7sp ones fit with a spacer.

Current shimano 10spd will also fit with another spacers.

the only ones that will not are the old shimano 10spd. designed to work with the alloy Shinamo body.

Also Sram use the same fitting as Shimano.

No - those will work too (apologies for another irrelevant to the OP clarification). It's the opposite way round - the alloy body will only work with the specific cassette (actually any 10-speed cassette AFAIK).
