Hi guys,

Bit of a problem, landlord wants to charge £200 for putting bike tyre marks on the walls around the stairs (oops)

any ideas on how to remove them - i going to try JMLs 'magic sponge' tonight after a trip to asda,

any thoughts?

Thanks

If the walls are painted with emulsion or any water based paint then avoid abrasive cream cleaners like Jiff (Ciff - whatever).

I don't know what a magic sponge is.

    Try a pencil eraser, gently.

Sugar Soap from B and Q cleans most stuff off paint
    Kona Kula Supreme, the hardtail
    Scott Spark 20 the softtail
    Cannondale CAAD9 the roadie
  • sponge soaked in washing up liquid usually does the trick, won't take off emulsion
  • tester pot of White from B&Q????
Probably cheeper than the sponge and come complete with its own brush!!!
  • +1 for the sugar soap. Building manager tried to pull the same thing on me.

    thanks guys

looks like i had the answer all along

    http://www.jmldirect.com/product.asp?pf ... rrency=GBP (just under 4 quid at asda)

its like some kind of satanic sponge, took 20 mins to remove 40 odd tyre marks (over 3 2 foot square areas

    200 quid my arse
    I'll keep you updated
  • cif and a clean dishcloth works well. even on matt emulsion. (actually, being matt hides any marks better than paint with a sheen).

If the spong does not work buy a tin of paint and repaint the whole wall and charge him £200 notes for doing it. :D

Neutral coloured pencil eraser, professional artist's size might come in handy. Depends how enthusiastic or clumsy you were.
  • 400 grit sand paper gently rub the wall down. That's what I did when I moved out of my last house in August.

Those sponges are actually really good. I've used them to shift all sorts of marks that even stuff like flash with bleach won't touch and they don't damage the surface underneath. No idea how they work but they do.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • +1 for tester pot from b&q
