I just scored a really great deal on a 2008 Stumpy FSR. I'm planning on keeping it in my house but need a really good lock for it - can't see any good lock threads in the last few months on the search.
Bike won't be used for riding around town or to work - got an old rockhopper for that.

so just for locking it at home?
Almax security chain, the 18mm version, not the 16mm one, and then something to secure it to the building...0 -
TBH get insurance and then fit the lock they say you should have."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thats a pretty cool idea Nick, cheers. I'll give them a call and ask for some specific locks they recommend.
I have got a decent-ish Abus U lock (or is it D lock - I never remember) for my other bike, if I'm out on the trails for a day can use that one.0 -
If you're out on the trail don't let it out of your sight.
Again, as long as it's insured - use what they suggest.

Purchased a magnum 185cm combination lock. Perfect so far, longer enough to run the cable through my wheels and frame, easy to set up and very secure.0

If the insurance company doesn't specify a particular lock, go for Sold Secure Gold rated locks.
I use one of these: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_231153_langId_-1_categoryId_165637
And one of these: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_231103_langId_-1_categoryId_165637
But any of the Magnum locks with a Sold Secure Gold rating would be a good bet.

And with 10% extra off at the moment, they're a bargain!Boardman Road Comp '08

Have a good read of this.
Even if you find a good lock your happy with, this'll make you think how thieves get through locks. I for one had never thought about bottle jacks and the like and made me think it's how I lock my bike that'll make a difference as well as what with!

Magnum are hardly known for producing solid and secure locks, and combination locks are famously easy to break into.
But, as said above, talk to your insurers before getting anything. For a bike like that, anything Sold Secure Gold from any of the more-renown brands (Abus, Kryptonite etc.) is likely to be approved.0
