Will these
SALSA Cross Top: brake levers cyclocross cyclo
work as stand alone levers - or only in conjunction/in-line with normal drop brake levers?

They work on their own, the cable stop fits into the hole where the cable would usually end if you were running them straight through. If the cable end isn't quite big enough, fit a ferrule in there.
