yeah, I'd like a cheaper one of those too.
  • i picked up a nike winter hat and its basicslly exactly the same as the rapha one but £12.

also i believe JE James have the nike team discovery one in which is basically the same, nice padded soft fabric with earflaps.

    its getting chilly out there!

Have you had a look at cycling hats on Etsy.com? There are some treasures there
'07 Langster (dropped one tooth from standard gearing)
'07 Tricross Sport with rack and guards
STUNNING custom 953 Bob Jackson *sigh*

I've had the Rapha one for a couple of winters now, and it is great. I look forward to it being cold enough to wear it! The only draw back it the lining adheres to the stuble on my head like velcro....

  • Do they fit under skid lids? I normally wear a trad cycling cloth cap with fleece ear warmers around the side; then 1 hour into the ride over heat and take the fleece off

I don't wear a helmet, preffering the safety benefits of a cotton cap or wool hat!

I reckon it would be a bit bulky under a helmet, but not too sure...

The Rapha winter hat fits under a helmet without any bother at all. The material is quite thin.

I wore mine for the first time this autumn today - it does a grand job of keeping your ears warm.

You can use Buffs underneath helmets. Keep your ears warmer too in winter.

Urban Hunter must be on some profit margin! Or is that my Yorkshire heritage showing through? I have the Nike one, trying to dry it quickly though I stuck it in the spindryer. Peak did not like that, which is no biggie really - was going to cut it off anyway. With a helmet on, it pushes the peak down and you finish up with a bad neck/shoulders trying to compensate. If you look on ebay in the cycling/hats section. The red/yellow/blue ones at £2.40 (I think, it comes to something in the region of £3.30 with p and p) is a great piece of kit. Good for in the rain, and gives you enough thermal protection to be comfortable.

I Have the Nike one, it tends to ride up at the back if worn under a helmet so I'll usually go with a skullcap rather than a cap, if I'm trying to keep my ears warm & use a helmet.

Walz caps direct are cheaper than urban hunter, not used them though.

I have used swrve http://swrve.co.uk/caps.html which are excellent but don't do the ear flap ones

I picked up a woolly cap from SportsWorld the other day actually, came with a peak and a bit to cover your ears / neck, thought I'd do for a cold morning commute, 5 quid.

I've just taken delivery of the Nike one and don't like the way it fits me - if anyone wants it drop me a line by PM and you can have it for a tenner
