Hi what is the strongest chain you can buy? Is the Wippermann BMX 1G8 Single Speed any good because the review on chainreaction says it is one of the strongest ever made..?

Thanks :)

You want a 3/16" carrier bike chain.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Is it for ss mtbing? If so then i don't think the bmx chains will fit.

I'd get either a decent (circa £20) halflink chain, or a connex wipperman Z1star antirust chain. I run two of these and have never had one show any wear or damage. The only reason i replaced my last one was because i couldn't find the spare links and i needed it a bit longer when I increased my chainring!

1/8" track chains are pretty much the strongest you're going to get. They are compatible with any chainrings/sprockets you want to use it with, they might just rattle a bit if you're running them on 3/32" kit.

Cheers but are spare split licks for half link chains available?

why would you even want split links on a Half link chain?

There aren't split links available. But then you never need to take them off. Just run them into the ground. If you get a decent one with good rings and sprockets then you'll see very little wear as you don't get much dirt ingress

Why do you need an especially strong chain on a single speed? I just use a normal 8sp chain on mine and have never had any chain breakage issues.

Gusset Slink. They're available from Billys in MTB and BMX width. Plus they look the kipper's tits too.

Only difference usually is width - MTB chains are 3/32" where a BMX chain will be 1/8" or 5/32". The pitch stays constant at 1/2" unless I'm mush mishtaken.

I've used a BMX chain on a single-speed MTB setup before now. It was a Connex, but it looked censored so I swapped it for a Gusset Slink.

Because my chain is always snapping, my sprocket is the tinyest bit bent, could that be the reason? All the teeth on both look fine

I had a friend who kept snapping chains on his single speed. It turned out he was running a 3/32" chain with a 1/8" rear sprocket - so i guess the chain links kept being forced apart.
