Rear hub pawls not engaging

Sorry if this is a silly question, hubs are one of those things I don't know much about.

I did a service including replacing wheel and chain on my singlespeed Kona, but when i replaced the wheel there is a complete lack of engagement when I turn the pedals - there is no engagement whatever with the pawls. The hub is an unbranded Kona one, about 4 years old now.

Does this mean the hub is finished, or is it possible I did something silly when replacing the wheel?

Thanks for quick response Nick, I'll try to post a pic tomorrow, not sure it will be very informative, everything looks fine (to me) externally. I'm not sure I'm up to dismantling the whole thing.
