Where do you clamp?

When using a bike in a workstand, where do you clamp it? I've seen people mention seat post, is that true even for carbon posts?

What about clamping on the seat tube?

Yep - clamp the seatpost. Unlike the seattube, the seatpost is designed to be clamped.

I am sure clamping most carbon seatposts is fine but I tend to play safe and use a race type stand (Park PRS20) for my road bike, which has composite frame and seatpost.

I "clamp" the seattube - so that the bike is higher on the stand.

It depends what you mean by "clamp" - Mine is secured with a microfibre cloth between rubber grips and the tube - it is just done up enough to stop the bike fallng out - there is no need to "clamp" the frame at all really.

This is on a 2008 S-Works Roubaix frame btw - and it is fine

I always clamp the seat post, they are designed to be able to take the clamping stress from the binder so the clamp won't damage them. The seat-tube isn't designed for that. Also having see what happenned to a bike that someone clamped on the top-tube and then tried to get something tight undone I would never ever clamp any part of the frame.
